What we did:
Over the past several months, we collected input from families on four muralists we were considering for a piece on the library side wall. We ran a bilingual online survey and conducted two in-person voting sessions, one at the Spring Showcase in May and one at Back to School Night in August. In total, we collected 273 votes across the three channels, plus dozens of open-ended comments.
As a result of this process, we have chosen Claudio Talavera-Ballón (https://www.talavera-ballon.com/) to paint this mural.

Nature imagery
Vibrant color and joyful, immersive visuals
Diversity and representation of TECA's actual community and San Francisco
Student involvement in the design and painting process
A handful of TECA-specific ideas — the Panther logo, the soccer team, our signature events
What happens next:
Ask the artist for an updated cost estimate and timeline
Raise money to fund the project (please donate to Fuel the Future!)
We plan to begin the design process the week of November 15, and to get our students and community involved!
About the artist:
Claudio (https://www.talavera-ballon.com/) is a Mission-based artist (lives a few blocks from the school) whose work spans large-scale community murals with strong ties to Latin American culture, migration themes, and the natural world. He will be attending Fall Fiesta on October 17th to meet the TECA community in person and learn more about our ideas for the mural.

Durante los últimos meses, recopilamos las opiniones de las familias sobre cuatro muralistas que estábamos considerando para una obra en la pared lateral de la biblioteca. Realizamos una encuesta bilingüe en línea y llevamos a cabo dos sesiones de votación en persona: una en el Spring Showcase en mayo y otra en la Noche de Regreso a Clases en agosto. En total, recopilamos 273 votos a través de los tres canales, además de docenas de comentarios abiertos.
Como resultado de este proceso, hemos elegido a Claudio Talavera-Ballón (https://www.talavera-ballon.com/) para pintar este mural.

Claudio (https://www.talavera-ballon.com/) es un artista radicado en el barrio de la Misión (vive a unas pocas cuadras de la escuela) cuya obra abarca murales comunitarios de gran escala con fuertes vínculos con la cultura latinoamericana, temas de migración y el mundo natural. Asistirá a la Fall Fiesta el 17 de octubre para conocer en persona a la comunidad de TECA y aprender más sobre nuestras ideas para el mural.
